In this tutorial, I will explain how to send ZPL commands to a Zebra GK420t printer to make it standalone, walk through the process of creating labels step by step.
What needed:
Zebra printer, in this case its the Zebra GK420t with COM port.
Zebra barcode scanner, Im using the Zebra DS46 series.
Part 1) Setting up the printer
- Connect the printer to the computer using an A-B cable.
- Note: If the computer does not recognize the printer, driver must be installed. Download here.
- Connect the barcode scanner to the printer.
- Go to the settings screen on your computer and click on Printers and Devices panel Settings > Printers & Scanners and select the ZDesigner GK420t printer.
- Enter the Printing preferences option
- In the opened panel, click on Tools
- To load files to the printer, follow the table below
Step number Action 1 Click on Action 2 Select Send File 3 Select FORMAT-E file 4 Click on Send 3 Choose Media-Power UP file 4 Click on Send 3 Choose Store Code DataMatrix 16 char file
8. Open the ________ file and scan the barcode using the barcode scanner.
9. Load a roll of stickers in the printer and press the button once to calibrate the printer for the type of sticker.
10. Scan with the barcode scanner to print a sticker.
